The Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition has wrapped up for 2026, and the PTG Consulting and Protest CMT teams are back from Mackay Showgrounds after three solid days on the stand.
QME is one of the few events where you get to talk to the people actually running the sites. Not procurement, not head office, but the operators, superintendents and engineers dealing with the problems day to day. That makes the conversations different. Instead of talking about services in the abstract, we spent most of the week talking about specific pits, specific tailings facilities and specific site headaches.
What people wanted to talk about
A few themes came up again and again. Mine closure planning was a big one, with more operators looking further ahead than they were even a couple of years ago. Water management and contaminated land came up constantly. And there were plenty of straightforward conversations about drilling programs, geotechnical investigation and construction materials testing on projects already underway.
The value of having PTG Consulting and Protest CMT on the same stand became pretty clear over the three days. Someone would start with a question about a drilling program and the conversation would work its way through geotechnical engineering, materials testing and closure planning without anyone needing to be handed off to another supplier. From exploration through to closure, it is all in the one group.
