Acid sulfate soil consulting for wind farm
Acid sulfate soil investigation and dewatering management planning for a proposed utility-scale wind farm.
The Brief
The proposed site sat within highly reactive acid sulfate soils, adjacent to an ASS-impacted mineral sands mine and near groundwater-dependent ecosystems, a combination that made dewatering and construction sequencing far from straightforward.
What We Delivered
PTG's geosciences team reviewed prior ASS investigations, identified data gaps, developed a preliminary field investigation plan, reviewed proposed construction methodologies for ASS and dewatering implications, and produced a preliminary ASS and Dewatering Management Plan. This included baseline groundwater and surface water monitoring and direct liaison with regulatory agencies.
The Result
The client received a management framework that accounted for the site's complex hydrogeology and adjacent land-use risks before construction commenced, reducing the likelihood of costly redesign or regulatory delay once works began.
